Who was Jean Piaget?
Jean Piaget was a Swiss constructivist psychologist. Born in 1896, he studied in detail the cognitive and intellectual development of children. The extent of his studies was such that his research was considered a pillar of current evolutionary pedagogy and developmental psychology.
After his PhD in biology at the University of Neuchâtel (1918), he began working in various psychology institutes in Paris – where he had the opportunity to collaborate with another leading psychologist, Alfred Binet – and Zurich.
Beginning in 1919 he began to develop his theories on the nature of knowledge. From that year on, he published numerous studies on child psychology based on his research. Research which, in turn, was based on observing the behavior of his children.
