I Want The Calm Pot For My Son Too!
Do you ever get the feeling of being out of control when your children cry desperately and throw a tantrum? If you still haven’t found a way to calm them down immediately, don’t worry, you still have one option: the calm pot.
The vase of calm is a very effective old method invented by a famous pedagogue, Maria Montessori. Let’s discover its benefits and learn how to make one to give to children when they are upset.
What exactly is the pot of calm?
The Pot of Calm is not just a revolutionary idea that calms children down. Through this creation by Maria Montessori, even parents will be able to find a little relaxation, managing to appease the ire of their children.
Furthermore, this fascinating, curious and effective tool works exactly like yoga or meditation, it is like looking at a candle. In fact, it acts as a stress control technique and is able to help adults and children to clear their minds.
The Calm Pot is simply a clear plastic jar filled with water, glue and glitter that babies, in sadness, crying, stress or anger, can shake to calm down. By carefully observing the glitter that glitters and creates different shapes, they get distracted.
At the same time, parents can help them lower the volume of their screams by talking to them in a pleasant and calm way, with love and affection. Another idea, complementary to the use of the vase, could be to make the child take deep breaths .
The most surprising aspect of this fantastic object is that it is not only for passing tantrums, but it works for the long term, as it makes the child gradually aware of their own breathing. For this reason, whenever he feels upset, he will resort to the vase autonomously.
What is most appreciable about this homemade tool is that it is far from being a punishment. In fact, it is used as a therapy that aims to distract and calm the child while developing their concentration and breathing. This way, he overcomes the frustration by having a good time.
What are its benefits?
Maria Montessori, creator of the vase of calm and the first Italian woman with a degree in medicine, explained at the time that this invention allows children between the ages of two and five to organize their central nervous system into a concrete stimulus.
On the other hand, science has shown that when a child is stressed, the heartbeat and breathing accelerate and the mind gets stuck. However, if he concentrates on the flow of glitter, an unconscious cerebral order develops which decreases the agitation.
In practice, the vase shows us that there is a relationship between the observation of this object and calm and that it is able to stimulate the child’s ability to concentrate, stabilizing his energy levels. Precisely for this reason, it is recommended to use it during long journeys or in moments that require a prolonged wait.
At the same time, the pot of calm can be a hope for all those parents who have particularly lively or hyperactive children. However, attention should be paid to the size and material it is made of, as they must be appropriate for the age and abilities of the children.
