Homemade plasticine for children, how to make it?

Our children face new challenges every day that will help them grow up healthy. And that is why we parents must give them the necessary tools so that they can develop all their physical and mental abilities. Fortunately, many of these elements are discovered when playing with different objects, and one of them is plasticine.

The soft texture of the clay and the great variety of colors and smells are characteristics that children love. This happens because they feel capable of freely creating whatever is dictated by their imagination. So it is no coincidence that in most schools there is this material in the list of school supplies.

Benefits of plasticine

And it’s not just about having fun, it’s also about reinforcing accuracy every time your little one tries to create a shape. This ability is known as fine motor skills, which in this particular case depends directly on the coordinated work of the bones, muscles and nerves of his little hands.

A child who has had the opportunity to spend long hours playing with clay has a better chance of learning to read and write faster.

These skills are then reflected once they pass initial education and enter primary school. At this moment, in fact, they already have to be agile with their hands and fingers to face other challenges.

Recipe for making plasticine at home

If mom and dad want to take advantage of all the benefits that plasticine hides, we offer them this incredible recipe so that their children can always have some at home.

What will we need?

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • Half a tablespoon of salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar (has a similar effect to yeast)
  • Vegetable dyes (liquid or gel)

Preparation

In a medium-sized saucepan, mix the water, cream of tartar, oil and flour and turn on the stove over low heat, so that it does not burn. Stir continuously, until it detaches from the walls and forms a ball.

After this step, you need to take it off and wait until it has cooled down. Then, knead it for a couple of minutes, remove small quantities from the dough and add a drop of dye to each piece. Here you have to be very careful because the idea is that the color remains in the clay and does not spread on the work surface.

Keep working it until it becomes a uniform color. Ready! You can play with your little one, getting involved in this very important phase and letting his imagination soar as far as his dreams go. When finished, keep it in a plastic container or airtight bags, waiting for the next adventure.

Let your child take part in this fun chore, regardless of age. For example, if he is already 6 or 7 years old, you can ask him to pass you the ingredients in the correct quantities, so that he can start interacting with the math. If it is smaller, just ask him to put the ingredients in the pan.

  • If you use homemade plasticine, you will know that they do not come into contact with a toxic product that can damage their health, especially if they are curious to taste it.

This activity must always be supervised by an adult and is recommended for children over 2 years old. It will never be too much to sit with them and create shapes and show them everything they can be able to do.
