The 5 keys to maintaining a marriage

Keeping a marriage has nothing to do with luck or fate. Contrary to what we usually believe or want to believe, marriage is built every day. It’s the little details that keep and enhance the relationship.

In We Are Mom we tell you the 5 keys to keep a marriage Take note of them and apply them with your partner.

1. Maintaining a marriage takes more than chemistry and passion

One of the biggest mistakes people make, especially young couples, is to confuse passion with true love. Passion is a powerful chemistry. True love begins when novelty disappears and familiarity settles.

Some couples get confused in this process, mistakenly believing that they have chosen the wrong partner.

A happy marriage knows that this process is common in all relationships and both of them are very clear at this point that they have been chosen to spend the rest of their lives together, despite the circumstances that may arise in the process.

2. If you want a happy marriage, always respond with kindness

Do you think your marriage no longer makes sense? Therefore,  the difference between a bad marriage and a happy marriage is that in the latter there is kindness. Simple things like:

  • Kind phrases: “Good morning”, “Thank you”, “I missed you”, “Please”
  • Actions that show kindness: making breakfast, giving thanks for the time spent together, dedicating an afternoon to your partner.

They are really very simple words, right? Unfortunately, they are constantly forgotten and some couples simply put them aside over time. Prevent yours from being an unhappy marriage by remembering that the other person is one of your priorities.

It is important to learn to spend time together and not be overcome by the pressures of work, home, debt and children. Remember it’s the little things in life that bring great moments.

    3. Try to say “You are important” when you speak

Do you show that you care about your partner when you talk to him? Maybe you haven’t even considered this idea and it’s a big mistake. Good communication shows that you are truly listening and that conveys respect.

When your husband or wife is telling you something, pay attention to them freely and spontaneously. Show interest in what he is talking about, because it is as important to him or her as it is important to you.

Obviously it is not wrong to question what you hear with the intention of clarifying doubts. Indeed, this exchange of ideas will be what will create a constructive dialogue. Good communication helps turn a relationship into a happy marriage.

    4. Make your marriage mature

Maturity requires patience but helps maintain the marriage. We, being selfish by nature, often seek immediate self-satisfaction. Patience generates perfect results when we incorporate it into our lives.

When we argue with our partner, we start to lose control and patience is the last thing that comes to our mind. Unfortunately, some couples do not mature and simply believe that they will remain passionate forever and when reality changes, they quickly fall apart.

    5. Strive to renew your marriage

It is not uncommon to see couples going through complicated situations and seeing divorce as the only way out. However, when they go to couples therapy, suddenly everything seems to work out. From the outside it may seem that this is an act of magic.

However, it should be known that this is not the case. Maintaining a marriage depends on learning to renew yourself, finding new things that inspire us and motivate us to continue together. Creating small personal and unique rituals is just one of the ways to renew our marriage.

Think about what to do together. The options are very varied:

    • Go to the movies every weekend
    • Destined for Thursday evenings to disconnect from the world and dine alone
    • Go to the gym together at the same time
    • Set a goal and work on it

Problems exist in every happy marriage, what makes the difference is knowing how to deal with them. This will determine the success or failure of a union.
