How is the art of happiness taught? What does it take to be happy? There is no need for money or material things. Happiness is much simpler than all of this …   Happiness is a journey. It is the product of our mental, emotional and physical habits. These habits trigger the body chemistry that will determine our level of happiness.

Some people are known to be more optimistic than others, but this is probably innate, although genes may also play a role in predisposing to a happier mood. Much of people’s mood is a habit. And like any habit it can be learned.

It may seem bizarre that happiness is a habit. But as children grow up and become adults, they often take the habit of being happy for granted and adopt that of being unhappy.

It is very important that we, as their parents, teach children the art of happiness – enjoying life, every moment and every step they take.

But, how do you help your children develop the habits that lead to happiness and that they will need to live a much fuller and more joyful life?

How is the art of happiness taught?

Help them develop constructive habits

Teaching children to have constructive habits for managing their thoughts is a way of creating happiness. How are these constructive habits transmitted? Taking into account the following factors and setting an example:

  • The management of emotions.
  • The management of the state of mind.
  • Have a positive conversation.
  • Learn to cultivate optimism.
  • Practice gratitude.
  • Learn empathy and assertiveness.

The art of happiness is taught by enjoying the little things that daily life offers

Cultivate the fun

One of the ways to teach the art of happiness is to laugh. Laughing is the best medicine for the soul. Really! The more we laugh the happier we are. Laughing can change the chemistry of the brain and body. The smile is a wonderful tool that makes us happy even when we lack strength. Have you ever noticed that children laugh all the time?

Get them used to taking care of themselves and their well-being

Children need to become aware that if they learn to take care of themselves without depending on others they will feel very happy and satisfied. Regular physical activity, healthy eating, and even the practice of meditation (first in the family) are factors that play a key role in teaching the art of happiness. But if you and your children have other strategies such as listening to music, being in contact with nature or walking to feel good … so be it!

The art of happiness is learned.  How?  Smiling, for example.

Speak positively

To enjoy the art of happiness, we as parents must teach our children to speak positively. This type of inner conversation will help them see the good side of things and overcome the obstacles in life.

A happy person must be able to recognize himself and to know that he can do whatever he sets out to do. Even if it requires some effort.

Find happiness in the little things

Children enjoy the little things in everyday life. You just have to see them enjoying everything in every moment. Daily life can be one of the most joyful things just by enjoying the little things.

The spectacle of a sunset doesn’t stop being wonderful for the simple fact that it repeats itself every day.  Children are capable of enjoying all these simple things. And it is precisely this ability that must not be lost.  They must grow up knowing how to find happiness in little things: the joy of reading a new book, hugging their grandmother, walking in the parkā€¦.

Children need to understand that being grateful and doing things for others is another way to cultivate happiness. That happiness cannot be bought either with money or with material things. Because happiness is a way of enjoying life in every moment with loved ones or those who are in our hearts. And you? How do you teach the art of happiness to your children?
