The Little Secrets Of Post-partum
When we are pregnant, the moment of delivery is certainly the most awaited. We are finally holding our much desired baby in our arms! However, for the new mother this is also the beginning of a tough period, which no one talks about: post-partum.
In addition to having to get used to the presence of the new arrival, the mother experiences a real transition, both physical and emotional. The secrets of post-partum are essential for getting well again. Read on, we’ll reveal them to you.
During pregnancy …
Studies in neurology and biology have shown that during pregnancy the mother’s brain undergoes changes to adapt to the arrival of the new being.
And here’s the good news: These changes make us smarter, sharpen our senses, improve emotional intelligence, and allow us to prioritize things!
Despite this, the mother lives in a fluctuating emotional state as hormone levels have not yet returned to normal. For this we will find ourselves crying and laughing at the same time or having contradictory feelings. In short, we must learn to adapt to this new life.
How postpartum affects some women
About 75% of women suffer from “postpartum depression”. It is a mild depression that peaks between the fourth and fifth day after delivery and usually coincides with the return home from the hospital. In the hospital, the mother has received all kinds of care and assistance, day and night, while now, once home, she has to take on a lot of new and mostly unknown tasks.
Thankfully, this state typically disappears on its own within a few days, when everything returns to normal and the mother has finally created a new routine.
The mother’s body is the one that suffers the most, having had to guard a small creature for nine months. During pregnancy, to make room for the new creature, the organs have undergone considerable transformations.
So, now that the baby is no longer in the belly, these organs must return to their original state. And then you have to consider the scars left by childbirth. It will take some time to heal.
The little secrets of post-partum
Sleep is the best cure
After all the efforts made to give birth, the best cure for a quick recovery is to sleep a lot. Sleep is restorative and in our case, primordial.
The frozen vegetables
Frozen peas will also help us recover.
They are the ideal vegetable to put in a plastic bag and to place on the episiotomy scar to decrease swelling.
The hairdryer
Every time we have to go to the bathroom, we have to use a small pitcher of warm water to pour on the area affected by the stitches, so that it always remains clean.
The efforts
We are not superheroes. Even if we try everything to get back to normal life as soon as possible, in the first few days, we don’t have to get up abruptly or carry weights.
Even the slightest effort can skip a few stitches, making postpartum recovery longer.
The power supply
Nutrition is very important. During the birth we lost a lot of blood and made a huge effort.
It is the ideal time to go back to eating those stews that our grandmothers used to prepare. They will help us recover and fill up with energy.
A ‘ healthy and balanced diet is also the basis for a gradual return to our form before pregnancy.
To delegate
When we go home with our baby, certainly there is no shortage of arms that cuddle and cradle him.
Who washes the dishes, runs the washing machine, irons and cleans?
It is for these matters that volunteers must not be lacking. We must allow ourselves to be helped, and accept the fact that the house may not be as clean now as it was before. This is not the important thing.
The most important thing is you and your baby.
Visits? Not even
Visits: no thanks. It is normal for all friends and acquaintances to want to meet the newcomer.
But this is not the best time. At least in the first week, the mother has to recover and the baby has to adapt to the new routine of sleeping, bathing and feeding.
And here’s our final tip. It may sound a bit strange, but enjoy every moment, because time passes quickly and soon the state of tiredness you are experiencing will be just a memory. The moment you hold your newborn baby in your arms, however, you will not forget it for a lifetime!
